The Utah Food Festival is a weekend-long celebration of our region's rich culinary heritage, spanning from ancient ancestral foods to contemporary delicacies. On May 16-17, you can sample and shop an array of tantalizing tastes from local artisans, delve into delicious workshops led by culinary experts, and enrich your knowledge of food history with insightful presentations!
The festival is included with Museum admission, which is free for Museum Members. The Museum is located at 301 Wakara Way, Salt Lake City, UT.

Saturday, May 16 - 7:15pm Living Traditions Food Demonstrations will feature Chef Esmeralda Torres. Food demonstrations are located at the entrance to the Food Market.
Step into a century-old family legacy as indigenous Zoque women from Chiapas demonstrate the sacred art of Mesoamerican chocolate-making, transforming native cacao into artisanal treasures using ancestral Maya techniques and wisdom.
The Living Traditions Festival is a three-day multicultural festival. The Festival supports the preservation of culturally diverse traditions, perspectives, and communities through the presentation of traditional music, dance, crafts, food, and more.

Dive into the ancient chocolate-making traditions of the Zoque and Maya cultures.

Located on the University of Utah campus at 410 Campus Center Dr. Salt Lake City, UT, 84112, the Utah Museum of Fine Arts hosts a display of Zoque Chocolates.
"Cacao Zoque (Zoque culture, Oaxaca and surrounding areas) is the closest you can come to taking the art home with you at the UMFA. The Lopez Aquino family is featured in our Central and South American art galleries as the living tradition that brings the UMFA’s ancient chocolate vessels to life."

The Natural History Museum of Utah offers "The Utah Chocolate Story". The story highlights the history of cacao and chocolate in Utah and the Southwestern U.S.
"Utah’s Cacao: the Oldest Yet Found in the United States – In Mayan and Aztec cultures, chocolate was used by the social elite; the discovery of an exotic import like cacao in a typical Four Corners region settlement, with residues on many common vessels, surprised many archaeologists.
